Biography

Vy M. Dong obtained a bachelor's degree in chemistry from UC Irvine where she completed an honor's thesis with Larry E. Overman. She then pursued doctoral studies in macrolide total synthesis with David W.C. MacMillan at UC Berkeley and Caltech. As an NIH postdoctoral fellow, she received training in organometallics and supramolecular chemistry with Robert G. Bergman and Kenneth N. Raymond at UC Berkeley. In July 2006, Vy began her independent career as Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada. In 2010 she became Associate Professor and in 2011 she is awarded as Adrian Book Distinguished Professor. The Dong group focuses on finding new organometallic pathways to overcome challenges in synthesis and catalysis, including C-H bond functionalization, CO₂ activation, and olefin elaboration. Professor Dong is a recent recipient of the Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Award for Organic Synthesis and Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship. In 2011 she has been honored with the Hoffman-La Roche Excellence Award in Chemistry. She is Advisor in the Organic Letters Editorial Board and in the Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis Academic Board. In 2010 she has been honored with the Early Researcher Award , the Amgen Inc Young Investigator Award and the AstraZeneca Award in Chemistry.
