Givaudan Karrer Lecture 2018

The Department of Chemistry of the University of Zurich is pleased to announce the Givaudan-Karrer Lectures 2018 by Prof. Dr. Alois Fürstner.

The course will focus on important advances in organometallic catalysis. The mechanistic logic will be presented and structure and bonding of reactive intermediates will be discussed. A few selected applications to natural product chemistry are meant to illustrate the impact of these catalytic transformations on organic synthesis in general. Specifically, the following topics will be covered:

Lecture Topics

  • Activation of π-Bonds: Alkene Metathesis (Lectures 1-4)
  • Activation of π-Bonds: Alkyne Metathesis (Lectures 5-6)
  • Activation of π-Bonds by Carbophilic Lewis Acids (Lectures 7-9)
  • Activation of π-Bonds by Nucleophilic Metal Catalysts (Lectures 10-11)
  • Iron Catalysis (Lecture 12)
