Prof. Henning Jessen (till September 2015  Professor at the Department of Chemistry of UZH) recieved the Ruzicka-Preis 2015. The prize is awarded by the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences of ETH Zurich.

The Ružička Prize is awarded annually to a young researcher for an outstanding piece of published work in the field of general chemistry.

Revolutionary Cyanid test system successfully implemented in a practical application

 

In a new paper, published in Food Chemistry, it could be demonstrated the applicability of the instantaneous detection and rapid quantification of cyanide in fresh and processed cassava roots.

A paper, published by Koushik Venkatesan et al. was ascertained as VIP (very important paper) in Chemistry - A European Journal


Gold(III) complexes that display intense luminescence at room temperature both in solution and in solid state are uncommon. Koushik Venkatesan and his group have found that through a judicous choice of ligands they have been able to prepare novel monocyclometalated gold(III) monoaryl complexes that display phosphorescence emission at room temperature in solution and in the solid state.

Nathan Luedtke demonstrates a new concept in multifunctional anticancer agents


Forschende der Universität Zürich (UZH) haben den ersten Wirkstoff gegen Schwarzen Hautkrebs (Melanom) mit doppelter Wirkung gefunden: Er tötet Krebszellen und verhindert gleichzeitig ihre weitere Ausbreitung. Dies konnten die Forschenden in Laborversuchen an Mäusen zeigen.

Greta Patzke has been appointed as associate professor

Prof. Dr. Greta Patzke, wurde zur ausserordentlichen Professorin für Anorganische Chemie auf den 1. Mai 2013 ernannt. Prof. Patzke studierte an der Universität von Hannover Anorganische Chemie und erlangte dort 1999 den PhD. Ab 2000 arbeitete sie als Oberassistentin am Departement für Chemie und angewandte Biowissenschaften der ETH Zürich. 2006 wurde sie habilitiert. Seit 2007 ist Prof. Patzke als SNF-Förderungsprofessorin am Institut für Anorganische Chemie der UZH tätig.
 
Christina Nevado has been appointed as full Professor

Prof. Dr. Christina Nevado Blázques, wurde zur ordentlichen Professorin für Organische Chemie auf den 1. Februar 2013 ernannt. Prof. Nevado Blázquez erlangte 2000 an der Universidad Autónoma de Madrid den Titel Master of Science in Chemistry. Nach einem Studienaufenthalt an der Tokyo University wurde sie 2004 promoviert. Anschliessend war Prof. Nevado Blázquez als „Post-Doctoral Associate“ am Max-Planck-Institut für Kohleforschung in Mühlheim an der Ruhr tätig. Seit 2007 ist sie Assistenzprofessorin mit „tenure track“ für Organische Chemie an der UZH.

Nathan Luedtke has been appointed as associated Professor

Prof. Dr. Nathan W. Luedtke, wurde zum ausserordentlichen Professor für Chemische Biologie auf den 1. Oktober 2012 ernannt. Prof. Luedtke studierte am Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry der University of California und schloss sein Studium 1999 mit dem Master of Science ab. 2003 erlangte er den PhD. Anschliessend arbeitete Prof. Luedtke als «NIH Postdoctoral Fellow» am Schepartz Laboratory of Chemical Biology der Yale University, USA. Seit 2006 ist er am Organisch-chemischen Institut der UZH Assistenzprofessor mit «tenure track».

PD Dr. Dominik Brühwiler ausgezeichnet!

Der Swiss Technolgy Award 2011 wurde an die Firma Optical Additives verliehen. Dominik Brühwiler hat als Forscher und Leiter des KTI-Projekts Nanotechnologie mit der Firma Optical Additives GmbH massgeblichen Anteil an der Entwicklung des nun prämierten Pulvers ZeoFRET.

Christina Nevado gewinnt den Chem Soc Rev Emerging Investigator Award

This annual award recognises an emerging scientist who has made a significant contribution to their research field. The Editorial Board commended Professor Nevados contribution to the total synthesis of natural products and new synthetic methodologies, in particular her research on gold catalysis.

Simone Duttwyler vom Organisch-chemischen Institut wurde am Freitag, 18. November in Bern mit dem Prix A.F. Schläfli ausgezeichnet. Mit dem Preis zeichnet die Akademie der Natruwissenschaften (SCNAT) herausragende Arbeiten junger Schweizer Forscherinnen und Forscher aus.

Gilles Gasser vom Anorganisch-chemischen Institut erhält eine Förderungsprofessur des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds (SNF). Gilles Gasser forscht über neue Medikamentenklassen zur Krebstherapie.
