Eva Freisinger studied Chemistry at the University of Dortmund, Germany, and conducted her Diploma Thesis in Bioinorganic Chemistry with Prof. Bernhard Lippert. In the same group she received her doctoral degree in 2000 for the Structural investigation of metal ion coordination to model nucleobases with the aid of single crystal X-ray crystallography. Subsequently she went for three years to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, New York, USA, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Structural Biology group of Caroline Kisker, partly funded by a fellowship of the German Research Foundation. During her stay abroad, she got acquainted with macromolecular crystallography and the methods involved in protein over-expression, purification and characterization.
From 2003-2008, Eva Freisinger was Oberassistent at the former Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Zürich, Switzerland, heading a research group in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry. From 2008 - 2014, she held an SNF Professorship at the University of Zurich.
